Anime Central 2001
Sunday Discussion Panels 1

Anime Conapalooza: Organizers of Anime Central and other cons joined in this fan community, giving healthy stats on the surge of attendance throughout the years.  Slayers Fan Panel: Panelist fans of this comical series gathered up a hearty crowd while discussing the constant symbolism, teasers, and foreshadowing in Linna Inverse's wacky world where technology has slowed with the dependence on magic.
Manga Drawing Workshop with Takeshi Miyazawa: Expert professional artist Takeshi Miyazawa had a packed seminar on helping fellow artists to focus on quality character design and developing skills to liven up lines, tones, and overall body of a character.  Topics included study on eyes and eyebrows, clothes and wrinkles with shadow effects, dark and light hair highlights, starting with wireframe bodies and building up towards shading techniques to give a body more presence, and reviewing 2-point and 3-point perspectives.
Trading Card Gathering: Held again for the hungry fans who probably spent too much in the dealers room, it's not enough to have just a few; you gotta collect more!  And when you come to a convention, for some fans, this was the place to trade some cards around to get an upper hand towards strengthening your card collection. Lost in the Translation: Popular Japanese translators (left to right) Neil Nadelman, Dave Fleming, and Dan Kanemitsu gave insightful views on the hard work behind Japanese translation efforts.  Topics covered learning from popular culture and historical material, use of military and slang dictionaries, and essential illustrative dictionaries.
Amy Howard and Brett Weaver: Inside the Voice Actor Studio: Claustrophobia, ranging temperatures inside the studios, haunted buffer rooms, long waits for editing; all in a day's work for the voice actors as Brett Weaver (second left) and Amy Howard (second right) point out.  Difficulties also included studios that don't use time codes to pull out a more rhythmic and natural vibe to the spoken dialogue.  Mistakes are sometimes made that cause delays, and it is essential to not let it get you down.  Listening to a director can always help as they have your best voice in mind to deliver a quality product and can help you to improve.  Brett confessed that he often talks to himself without realizing it, but it's great practice encouraged by many voice actors.  Favorite anime characters were pointed out:  Brett likes Tora from Ushio and Tora while Amy, of course, has always liked Nova from Starblazers.
