Discussion Panels 2

Adapting and Directing Dubbed Animation: With panelists Neil Nadelman (second left), Jeff Thompson (second right), and Wendee Lee (far right), attendees learned about the hard work behind all the successful dubbed anime titles.  It's not just about being able to memorize personalities and lines and possibly sing, it's also about being able to develop and expand acting abilities, learning to improvise, keeping fresh and spontaneous, and being able to be identified just by the voice.  For the vocal director, the work is a little tougher as they must deal with choosing a good cast and script, working well with actors and actresses and helping to develop their talents, and even trying to write dialogue for specific voice actors because of their unique vocal abilities which makes the show shine even brighter.
Amateur Voice Actors and Dubbing: Not quite karaoke and not quite professional, but all fun and very inspiring.  With a large turnout of aspiring voice actors, topics included basic care of voices, variety of characters, and lots of practice. Fan Subtitling Workshop: Every subtitler needs to learn from fellow subbers in their anime community as topics included proper editing, accuracy of scripts, honorifics, and staying true to personal technical preferences.
Import Video Gaming: It all started with the Street Fighter craze, or was it the old Karate game?  Topics never really stayed in the past; instead they looked towards the future as discussion delved into console games like Marvel vs. Capcom, Guilty Gear X, and Armored Core developed for machines like PlayStation2 and Sega Dreamcast. Fan Parody Dubbing Workshop: Representatives from Magnum Opus Productions, Seishun Shitemasu, Jigoku no Video, Corn Pone Flicks, and Fast Food Freedom Fighters discussed their secrets behind their wildly successful cult titles Dirty Pair, Ranma 1/3, Robotech 3, Orange Road: the Akira Story, Enterprise vs. Yamato, and much more.
Scott Frazier: "Hi!  I'm Japanese!" Scott always has a new twist on his personal history in Japan as he recalled the triumphs and horrors of working his way into the Japanese anime industry. Cel Tradin' Post: Wanna make a quick deal with fellow cel collectors?  Then this meeting was definitely the place for the higher echelon to gather around and show off their trophies and possibly exchange for even better ones!
Additional panels also held on Friday: Kia Asamiya and Mika Akitaka, Fanboy Entertainment, The Right Stuf International, Anime Gone Bad, Mahou Shoujo Madness, and All That Yaoi.
