Panels! Panels! Panels!  More panels than you can shake a stick at and then some!  AX2000 offered a huge four-day weekend variety of panels galore featuring many esteemed Guests of Honor, noted fans, and industry representatives from as far as Japan all heading healthy discussions on various exciting anime and manga-related topics ranging from new shows, fan activities, industry follow-ups, historical perspectives, and other forms of fan entertainment lasting well into the night.  Packed full of attendees, every single panel or activity offered something to learn from, whether you were into the discussion subject or not, as shown below with a brief description of each session.

Monday Panels Gallery 10

The Manga Artist's panel, featuring Mr. Yasuhiro Nightow (left) of Trigun and Ms. Chiho Saito (right) of Revolutionary Girl Utena, went back to basics and into the future covering how one learns how to start a manga, developing characters, emotion, story, and illustration with traditional and computer enhanced skills. The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation panel gave the curious public clues for future venues and ambitions to sustain a growing capacity of fans worldwide that go well beyond the 10,000 mark.  AX2001 is planned to be held at the Long Beach Convention Center and features a 3600-seat high-quality deluxe theater.  AX2002's top choice site is the new Anaheim Convention Center that features twice the size rooms and capacity beyond LBCC.
The Animation Directors panel, featuring (left to right) Mr. Kunihiko Ikuhara (Utena, Sailor Moon), Mr. Kazuki Akane (Escaflowne, Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory), Mr. Mahiro Maeda (Blue Submarine No. 6, Gatekeepers), and Mr. Hirotsugu Kawasaki (Spriggan, Memories' Stink Bomb segment).  The directors spoke about issues involving conceptual design, character designs, mecha designs, story, staff, budgets, production schedules, and promotion.
The Character Designers panel focused on animation character designers and featured (left to right) Mr. Kazuto Nakazawa (El Hazard, Tenchi in Toyko), Ms. Takada Akemi (Kimagure Orange Road, Patlabor), Mr. Junichi Hayama (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Fist of the North Star), Mr. Keiji Gotoh (Bakuretsu Hunter, Gatekeepers), Mr. Yutaka Minowa (Outlaw Star, new Vampire Hunter D movie), Mr. Takuhito Kusanagi (Blue Submarine No. 6), and (not shown) Mr. Range Murata (Blue Submarine No. 6).  Discussion involved conceptual designs, inspiration, personal favorites, production schedules, and promotional illustrations.
The Final Rounds of the video gaming tournament quickly got underway with contestants vying for some fabulous prizes.  Featured games throughout the entire 4-day tournament were: Dead or Alive 2 for Sega Dreamcast, Elemental Gearbolt for Sony Playstation, Gundam for Sega Dreamcast, I'm the Chef for Sony Playstation, Lord of Lunar for Sony Playstation, Marvel vs. Capcom for Sega Dreamcast, Pokemon Stadium for Nintendo 64, and Armored Core: Masters of Arena for Sony Playstation.
Additional panels held throughout the four days of the convention included: Global A Entertainment (Console Gaming), Digital Manga industry panel, Sony PSX2 and Sega Dreamcast Import Games panel, AnimEigo industry panel, Manga Entertainment industry panel, and Fanboy Entertainment industry panel.
