From anime website design to Para Para dance craze, Otakon 2002 held a huge round of panels and discussions that had something for everyone to learn more about and enjoy.  Panels were staged across 3 rooms and easily provided seating space for large capacity crowds of fans yearning to catch more than just a fleeting glimpse of that favorite Guest of Honor.

Getting Published: Respected authors in the domestic anime and manga industry and research gave helpful tips on submitting manuscripts for publication.  Topics covered fictional novels, procedures on creating proposals, providing cover letters, and having a potential marketing strategy in mind for a product to publish.
Fan Fiction: Online and offline authors gathered for another summit meeting to discuss topics for both old and new folks interested in fan fiction.  Topics included fictional thought processes, lessons on super-deformed and comedy stories, staying away from large glossaries of terms, and difficulties with co-authoring works.


Website Design: Representatives from Fans View, Fly By Night Design, Otaku Kingdom, and Anime News Network talked about the proper direction and usage of designing anime-themed websites from scratch.  Debates included use of Flash, splash screens, Javascripting, editors like Dreamweaver, finding an affordable web host and setting up a domain, setting up a SQL database for more complex online operations, and permissions for use of various images or published text content.


Closer Look at Web Manga: Celebrities of well-known web mangas such as MegaTokyo and Penny Arcade gathered together to talk about the online publishing process, character development, tackling the issues about bandwidth limits for their increasing fanbase, and use of Flash versus plain static images, informal versus formal printing processes, and also discussions about the newest web trends such as blogs and live journals.
ParaPara Shiyou: Some of the biggest fans of Para Para Paradise spread the gospel of the Bemani / BeatMania dance culture with topics including heavy use of Super Eurobeat music, various controllers, console platforms, PPP clubs in Japan and America, and other visual dance performances games.  Highlights also included a staged demonstration on the simple and complex PPP dance routines.
Cel Roadshow: Fans of animation cels gathered together to talk about and show off their latest and greatest collectibles.  Discussion and demonstrations included care of cels, shopping resources, haggling prices, best dealers, favorite characters and anime shows, and unique personal stories about how the cels were bought.
