The most popular parts of the anime convention scene are the panels and discussion groups that speak out for unique interests pertaining to the hobbyist in all of us.  This year at Sakura-con, numerous panels packed in the crowds to listen in and emphasize on the exploration of Japanese culture and growth of fandom in the anime community.  In this section of the convention environment, we'll show you some of the exciting panels to be at throughout the busy weekend schedule.

Funimation: With such hit releases like First Angel, Gunslinger Girl, and Kiddy Grade, representatives from Funimation were quick to talk about more releases for the summer and fall, experience with the voice actresses, big convention schedule, more marketing towards girls, and opening up a new Operation Anime featuring clubs and forums aimed towards getting more girls involved in the anime community.

Beginners Cosplay: Melissa Quinn and friends from Faerie Fingers cosplay seamstresses were on hand to discuss the arts and crafts of cosplay for the beginners in all of us.  Topics featured shopping for fabrics at clothing surplus shops, using comfortable footwear, making shoecovers, enhancing with shoulder pads and various shaped accessories, and basically looking your best on a tight budget before you dip further into more advanced areas.

Codename: Robotech: Robotech's 20th Anniversary continued at Sakura-con with a big presentation of a pilot episode, discussion about models and comics, basic summary of the vast epic Robotech universe, and a big raffle prize giveaway to lucky attendees.

Travis Willingham: Guest of Honor Travis Willingham, voice of Vegeta from Dragonball Z and Roy Mustang from Full Metal Alchemist, talked about his latest endeavors in the realm of acting for video games, collecting anime action figures, starring in live action musicals, and much more.

Kimono Workshop: Filling up the Arts and Crafts area was the big Kimono display with avid collectors on hand to talk about the history of the Kimono, proper care and storage of the fine pieces, seasonal types of kimonos, modifications applied for individual tastes, as well as how they are crafted and great attention to detail in the more advanced designs.
Mechanized Propulsion Systems: The group responsible for envisioning a realistically develop and deploy a working mechanical walking mecha, much like Mechwarrior, talked about their progress in designing the navigation systems, engine components, commercial and military usage models, walking motion, safety mechanisms such as a rollcage and ejection seat, and much more.
Additional panels and discussions held throughout the weekend included: Amateur Voice Acting, industry panels for AVEX and numerous domestic anime distribution companies, Custodians of Otakudom, Elfquest, Fanfic Bedtime Stories, History of Anime and Manga, How to Draw Anime and Manga, Forming an Anime Club, Manga in America, Parent's Guide to Anime, Robotech Nostalgia, and much more.
