Across
four whole days, the San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival always has
something going on one of the two main stages. Because this year
marks the anniversary of 100 years of Japantown in San Francisco, the
schedule was packed with so many diverse things to see and do to hopefully
tell a long tale of how it all started and what the future may hold.
Events scheduled for
this year included: Cherry Blossom Queen Program, San Francisco Taiko
Dojo, Classical Japanese Dance, Martial Arts Demonstration, Japanese Folk
Dance, Karaoke Song Festival, Gojome Tensho Taiko, Ensemble Chiyoda, Li
Koko Concert, USA Musume singing and dance performance, Shorinji Kempo,
Nishi Kaigan Iaido Dojo, San Francisco Wushu Team, Japanese Swords, Sakura
Band with Popcorn Koto, Mari Iijima Special Concert, Anime Costume
Contest, and lots more. Nearby in the Kintestu mall and Miyako
Hotel, more demonstrations and exhibitions of a much quieter nature
included: Japanese Textile Embroidery, Japanese Paintings, Bizenyaki
Pottery, Japanese Patchwork Demonstrations, Calligraphy, Ikebana Exhibit,
Bonsai and Suiseki Exhibits, Origami Demonstration, Washi Ninjyo Paper
Dolls, Tea Ceremony, and much more. |
