Welcome to another edition of Linus Lam Network News for 2009!  This news report covers our trip to Otakon 2009 for a huge weekend of anime and manga enjoyment and a whole lot more!  Held at the Balitmore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland over the weekend of July 17th-19th, 2009, Otakon 2009 saw lots of attendees ready to party on with a bunch of dedicated artists, live performances, gaming events, cosplay fun, and plenty of opportunities to hang out with fellow anime and manga fans. Our exciting trip to Otakon 2009 starts here!  Coverage you can count on, here at Linus Lam Network News!

Highlights: Various live programming events kept the attendees well-covered throughout the weekend. Guests of Honor included: Becca, Crispin Freeman, Kikuko Inoue, Noboru Ishiguro, Yukio Kikukawa, Masao Maruyama, Hidenori Matsubara, Mike McFarland, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, Misako Rocks!, Tony Oliver, Frederik L. Schodt, Travis Willingham, and Yutaka Yamamoto. Live concerts included: Becca, Kanon Wakeshima, MELL, and Naomi Tamura. Big events included: Iron Editor, Masquerade, Otakon Game Show, Otaku Idol Contest, Karaoke, and Anime Music Videos. Panels and Workshops included: Amateur Voice Acting, Anime Musicals, Anime Lost in Translation, Anime Parliament, Anime and Manga Studies, Art of Artist Alley, Dubbing Workshop, Fanfiction plot Development, Budget Tokyo Travel, Career Management for Artists and Geeks, Collaborating a Comic, Contour Drawing, Gesture Drawing, Cosplay 101, Cosplay Cosmtics, Cosplay Photography, Crossplay for Girls, Dubs that Time Forgot, The American Lolita, Gaia Online, Gaijin in Japan, Gundam Model Building, History of Japanese Rock/Pop Music, Heckling Bad Anime, Impact of Evangelion, Intro to Learning Japanese, J-Music 101, Travel to Japan, Japanese Crim Fiction in Anime and Manga, Learn to Play Go, Lifestyles of Lolitas, Making a Manga, Manga Literacy and Children, Mecha Appreciation, Celebrating 30 Years of Gundam, Occult in Anime, Otaku Breakfast, Parents and Fandom, Cosplay Posing, Anime Old Timers, Special Makeup Effects, How to Draw Chibis Workshop, and much more!
Cosplay: This year's trip to Otakon saw lots of inspired costumes from numerous anime and manga characters and more! Chart-topping displays for this year included characters from Gurran Lagaan, Code Geass, Soul Calibur, Persona 4, Soul Eater, Team Fortress 2, BlazBlue, Evangelion, Kingdom Hearts, Disgaea 3, Macross Frontier, Gundam, Final Fantasy, and much more!

Miscellaneous: From Artists Alleys to Art Shows, Interactive Gaming events to Video Screening rooms, Anime Music Videos to casual conversations with esteemed Guests of Honor, shopping inside the Dealers Hall to Charity events, you can always find something to do at Otakon.  For the reader in you, the nearby Hilton hotel hosted the Manga Library.  Karaoke was always at its usual location and full of attendees.  Plenty of Video programming rooms were packed with fans watching the latest shows or just catching up on old favorites.  And a young Otaku's Otachan room tincluded activities like Paper Koinobori, Dragon Masks, Origami, and Buttons.
