Neko-con 2004
Panels and Discussions

Cosplay 101: Beginners of hall cosplay got a chance to peek inside how the veterans keep up the pace.  Topics featured using game and anime references, making skirts, getting the right wigs and jewelry, breaking down construction into sections, shopping for cosplay accessories or making your own, and detailing for personal body types.

Anime and Psychology: Anime cons have certainly changed the fandom arena with more and more younger folks getting into the social arena, and more older folks tuning into anime.  Topics covered general hall cosplay, gaming, craftsmanship quality of cosplay competitions, and poular anime characters from Trigun, Lain, and .hack seen as popular titles for the thinking crowds.

Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire is the brainchild from Michael "Mookie" Terracciano, author and artist of the fantasy webcomic.  With many fans, it is a story of a grumpy seer, his talking cat, his deformed girlfriend and his magical little brother traveling around their kingdom having visions, dealing with mood swings, throwing fireballs, tolerating customers, banishing evil, solving mysteries and fishing.

Tips for Cosplay Competitions: Seasoned award-winning veterans of the cosplay performance arena presented a discussion on the art of the performance for those interested in competing for awards.  Topics covered general performance, eye-catching craftsmanship, proper judging, commisions vs. homemade costumes, using elements of humor, drama, and sticking to the universal 2-minute (or less) rule for skit time.

Cel-Painting: Steve Bennett gave his usual discussion and following workshop on the art of cel-painting, involving the traditional technique of painting acrylic sheets of plastic for the animation process.  Attendees could pay a small fee for the materials and then proceed to learn the proper brushing techniques and walk away with a cool souvenir!
Anime Name That Tune: Think you know all those anime songs?  This year's show included songs from Gravitation, Read or Die, Cowboy Bebop, Maho Tsukai Tai, Lunar, .hack, Ranma 1/2, Megaman, Gasaraki, Captain Harlock, Yugioh, Miyuki-chan in Wonderland, Trigun, Inuyasha, Urusei Yatsura, and much more!
