Packing in a Costume Contest, Sony AIBO raffle drawing, Saturday Night dance, and lots more fueled by members from Sony, Viz Communications, Fanime, Otaku Tribe, SNM Productions, and Bandai Entertainment, the Metreon Festival turned into a huge anime party extravaganza that lasted well into the night.

Sony Metreon Festival of Anime 2001
Festival Events in the Anime Lounge

The Costume Contest started with a flurry of introductions of the Viz Communications team who judged the costumes.  The Anime Lounge was also the gathering place for the following workshops and demonstrations: Drawing and Coloring with COPIC Markers: hosted by Ken O'Connell, artist, animator and Professor of Art at the University of Oregon, who led a hands-on workshop teaching the basics of colors, multiliners, and airbrush attachments for illustrations. Bay Area Anime Clubs: Representatives from numerous Bay Area Anime clubs were on hand to assist fans in tuning into upcoming club events in and around the anime community. And from Sony: AIBO Demonstrations showing the latest electronic pet along with Sony Music Imports with their latest offering of J-pop releases.
Thanks to Bandai Entertainment, Sony, and Viz Communications, and a little help from Sasami and Ryoohki, a couple of winners were drawn up with cool bags of prizes like model figurines, artbooks, manga, CDs, tapes, and much more.

DJ MOD, DJ Muteki, and DJ Socket of Otaku Tribe and SNM Productions were on hand to spin the club records of house, trance, and lots of J-pop music, as well as the hottest anime tracks. And what a ruckus they caused, with the fans shaking their groove thang well into the hot night. You had to be here at the Metreon to enjoy this crowd!
