KCON 2015 was such a pleasant trip to make this year, I'm surprised at how much it has changed since last year's debacle. They seemed to have listened to many of the complaints and improved the convention experience by leaps and bounds.
I arrived on Sunday (I was covering another convention on Saturday) early in the morning and was able to quickly pickup my wristband and KCON registration materials with barely a line to wait in. The registration pickup area was sectioned into P1, P2, and general attendees as usual but seemed a bit more organized in the flow of things.
The layout was more organized this year and appeared to make better sense. The Market included all of the food booths and food trucks and was open until late every night. During the day, I grabbed some hot Korean BBQ beef bowls, cold lemonade and sampled plenty of chicken finger food. Yum! One big change was I never had to deal with buying food tickets at the KCON Merchandise area. I could just pay in cash at any food booth or food truck and I was good to go. Plenty of covered dining areas were present for weary shoppers yearning to break free from the hot summer sun. Large areas set for restroom stalls were located around the back and easy to find. Shopping was a blast. Barely a long line for anything, I was able to snap up tons of KPop CD albums for myself (mostly T-Ara) as well as buying some neat trinkets at the various fan booths. I think I went to the same booth four times without any hassles and never had to rush. The fan booths were actually located inside the official KCON events area where panels and workshops were held. Two large stages hosted live performances by DJs, dance-offs, K-Dramas, and much more. Plenty of KPop music filled the air and left everyone feeling quite excited about being in the middle of KPop fandom central.
Saturday's concert lineup included B1A4, G-Dragon, IU, Teen Top, and VIXX. Sunday's concert lineup included BTS, Girls' Generation, CNBlue, Jung Joon Young, and SPICA. Being a huge fan of BTS and Girls' Generation, clearly I made the right choice of day to attend as well as being able to enjoy SPICA and CNBlue as icing on the cake. The concert itself was absolutely fantastic. The main concert section was moved to the middle and pretty much everyone got a very good view of the artists. Small cameras were allowed as always so I was freely able to snap away as I pleased. My friends and I had excellent seats just above the P1/P2 standing area and were really very comfortable for sitting or standing and waving our lightsticks during the big show. The sound and light show was incredible and we left generally feeling excited about next year.
KCON is the ONE convention you need to experience if you're really into KPop and everything it has to offer. I highly recommend it to anyone to make the trip and enjoy what it has to offer since it clearly has improved upon the layout and overall experience.
