Once upon a Halloween in 1998, two Intel dudes observed too many vanilla-white geeky machines in the world. And Apple's new iMac didn't make things any better. So these two dudes decided to embark on a great Project HelloKitty98 that would contribute some flavor to the dullard PC forums and see what would happen.
Building your own Sanrio-style machine is pretty simple, really. All you need is spray paint, clear acrylic coat, stickers, a sense of style and vision of what you want your machine to look like, and good knowledge of how to disassemble and reassemble your machine.
1. Dismantle entire machine from external shell. Masking parts from paint will work, but it won't be a clean job. |
2. Ready parts for painting. Either spray paint or brush will do, depending on the theme and style. Steps for proper paint application: (a) White primer coat, (b) Two coats of the color coat you want. (c) Coat of clear protective acrylic. |
3. After paint is thoroughly dried and set with a protective acrylic clear coat, simply reassemble all parts back onto machine and test power-up to make sure everything works okay (you never know). |
4. Collect stickers and think about how you want to apply them with various distractions (TV, magazines, etc.). |
5. Apply stickers and voila! Proceed to the Galleries for the finished job. Note: The HelloKitty98 Team did a little more than the basic job. |
