of Linus Lam Network News for 2008! This news report covers our trip
to Costume-con 2008 for a huge weekend of costume enjoyment and
a whole lot more for 2008! Held at the San Jose Doubletree Hotel in San Jose, California
over the weekend of April 25-28, 2008, Costume-con 2008 saw lots of attendees ready to party on with a bunch of
dedicated costumers, live performances, and plenty of opportunities to hang
out with fellow amateur and professional costume fans. Our exciting trip to

Highlights:
If you are into
costumes, REALLY into costumes, and time and money is not a concern
for you, then Costume-con is most definitely the convention to connect
with fellow dedicated costumers. This is the place where
the best of the best show off their fabulous and meticulously constructed
costumes for the world to see. Leading professionals, master-class
costumers, and plenty of fascinated costume fans attend every year to
experience a weekend that is rich in heritage and history. Various live programming events kept the attendees well-covered throughout the weekend.
Big events included Fantasy and Science Fiction Masquerade, Historical
Masquerade, 18th Century Salon Social Gathering, Steampunk Meetup, Asian
Ball-Jointed Doll Meetup, Costumers Swap Meet, Hats and Jammies Breakfast,
Fursuit Parade, 1950's Vintage Tea Party, and more. Panels and workshops included functions like
Sheer Dresses of Crionline Era, Mechanical Engineering in Costumes, Dance
Manners, Pin-Fitting a Paper Pattern, Quickie Corsets, Costumes of
Venice's Carnivale, Using Performance Space, 16th Century Supermodel,
Evolution of Uniform Design, Hats of Bustle Era, Bodice Draping for
Victorian Era, Spacesuits: The Final Frontier, Historical Props, Evolution
of Mustache and Facial Hair, Pre-1920s Theater Makeup, Secrets to a Good
Photograph, Shoe Embellishment, Making Wireframe Hats, Alien Construction,
Sci-fi Militaria, Smoke and Mirrors, Fursuit Construction, and lots more. |
