The main attractions of Comic Market itself are, of course, the awe-inspiring doujinshi halls,
which have seen steady increase in population by the thousands along the years. Official attendance for Comiket
68 was quoted at over 500,000. Whether professional, amateur, or mere beginner, everyone had nearly equal stake
of table space to sell their mangas, and the really popular artists had organized lines set up by the staff for buyers to line up, get an autograph, and walk away
happy. You could say this was like an Artist Alley in America multiplied by 1000 times. Everyone is constantly drawing, selling their fan mangas, chatting
with other artists about styles and hot trends to incorporate into stories, and buying up bags of other favorite artists works. Every day is different, Friday
you may see girls' type doujinshis, Saturday you may see boys' type, and Sunday you may see a mix of yaoi/hardcore boys' type doujinshis. The pictures in these
galleries just cannot do justice as there are multiple huge halls filled with endless rows of artists catering to the wide tastes of the doujinshi fans. Popular
doujinshis you find here: Full Metal Alchemist, Final Fantasy, Bleach, Prince of Tennis, Evangelion, Gundam, Chobits, Naruto, and much more. Most doujinshis
sells for about 300 yen to 1000 yen, depending on the quality and output of the artists. The more popular artists (those who have a reputation for very
high-quality art) have special lines set up where fans can pay upwards of 2000 yen to 4000 yen for an autographed and exquisitely wrapped book. Artists who run
out of supplies during their stay inside the halls can make an easy trip to the art supply tables alongside the walls. These little shops have everything you
need from quill pens to pencil leads, screentone sheets to rulers, and sketchbooks to publisher-spec drawing boards. If you're looking to become a future
doujinshi artist at Comic Market, then we hope this little report helps you in your quest! |
