Linus Lam's Coverage of Anime Expo 2001

Starving otakus? Hardly news to thousands of fans who traveled many miles and many dollars along the way to make the trek to AX2001 and save up just enough to spend it all in the Exhibit Hall. So what's fairly good to eat and easy to find within decent walking distance when strutting around the premises? Well, without wandering far off the beaten path, we've managed to conveniently run into a few places that fans flocked to. Because it's all about saving money and if the majority seems to like it, then maybe there's something worthwhile for you. Hey, can't go wrong with that!

AX Eats Long Beach

The Hyatt had some pricey dishes, but that didn't stop fans who lined up after seeing what was being served! Not your ordinary flimsy pizza or soggy sandwiches served here, nope. Luckily, LLNN found time to grab a lunch here and chow down on a great ham and cheese sandwich and cool salad with ranch dressing. Oh, the sodas? Cheated. Already brought a couple from the trek down to Long Beach.

Was that a hot dog stand in the front of the Westin Hotel? Sure enough, fans who stayed at the Renaissance and the Westin managed to catch a quick bite to eat over here before making the trek to the Theater or Exhibit Hall. For a coupla bucks, just grab a soda and polish dog and be on your way to the action.

But what if you forgot to grab a bite to eat before? Yeah, happens to the best of us many times. Exhibit Hall had it's own rather pricey joint serving up burgers and soda for the hungry masses after an exhausting romp through the maze of dealers tables.

Not that prices seem to matter to many though. Even outside the Exhibit Hall, two dining function spaces had plenty of fans looking for food and finding a place to sit down and soak in the experience.

And of course, there was the great Parkers' Lighthouse at the end of the Shoreline Village. It goes without saying that they have great steaks.
